MARKING OF THE 32ND ANNIVERSARY OF ESTABLISHING THE SIXTH DETACHMENT OF THE SPECIAL POLICE BRIGADE

Today, in Banja Luka, the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of the Sixth Detachment of the Special Police Brigade was marked by the memorial service at the memorial church of Saint Archangel Michael, laying wreaths at the memorial to the fallen members of the Sixth Detachment and visiting the Memorial room at the premises of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit.
The wreaths were laid at the memorial of the fallen members of the Sixth Detachment of the Special Police Brigade by the Serb member of BIH Presidency, Ms Željka Cvijanović, the President of the Republic of Srpska National Assembly, Mr Nenad Stevandić, an envoy of the Republic of Srpska President, the Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević, family members of the fallen Detachment members and representatives of detachments of the Special Police Brigade, veterans’ organisations, the City of Banja Luka, etc.
The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, said that the culture of remembering the fallen members of the Ministry of the Interior was a right, duty and obligation, and that everybody who had given their life for the freedom of their people and country was immortal.
‘Today we mark 32 years from establishing the Sixth Detachment of the Special Police Brigade and honour the 13 of its members whose lives support the foundations of the Republic of Srpska’, Minister Karan said.
Minister Karan said that this was also an opportunity to remember the 144 members of the Special Police Brigade who gave their lives for the Republic of Srpska, and all 782 members of the Ministry of the Interior who died in the Homeland-defensive war.
The Serb member of BIH Presidency, Ms Željka Cvijanović, said that, thanks to the brave soldiers of the Army and Police of the Republic of Srpska, its citizens can live in freedom. She added that it was a permanent obligation of the institutions of the Republic of Srpska to strengthen the police and never forget the people who gave their lives or parts of their bodies for the freedom in which the citizens nowadays live.
The President of the Republic of Srpska National Assembly, Mr Nenad Stevandić, said that the Republic of Srpska had strong Police and was therefore able to resist the pressures that would never stop.
The president of the Association of the Veterans of the Sixth Detachment of the Special Police Brigade, Mr Zoran Krajnović, said that this Detachment was established with only one goal – to keep, protect and defend the Republic of Sprska, its people and their property. ‘This task was completed. We were up to the task and nowadays we have the living Republic of Srpska’, Mr Krajinović pointed out and added that the new president of this Association was Mr Goran Sladojević.
