RS MoI INCREASES ITS SECURITY MEASURES DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

The Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior will undertake all the necessary, planned preventive and repressive measures and actions in order to preserve the security situation on the Republic of Srpska territory during the upcoming holiday season, regardless of the numerous security challenges that had recently occurred, including the latest terrorist attack to the Police Station in Bosanska Krupa. This was one of the conclusions of the extended staff meeting the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, held at the Bijeljina Police Administration.
The Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević, as well as the heads of the operational units and the head of the Bijeljina Police Administration, Mr Jovica Vasilić, also attended the meeting during which they discussed the security situation on the territory of the Republic of Srpska, and particularly the territory covered by the Bijeljina Police Administration. The security situation was evaluated as good.
The head of the Bijeljina Police Administration presented the activities this administration carried out in the aspect of maintaining the security situation, emphasizing that the police officers submitted 631 reports on the commission of a criminal offence to the competent prosecutor’s office. Additionally, there were 414 minor offences recorded, mainly physical assaults and fights.
They also presented the planned activities of police officers that refer to countering the illegal trafficking of wood products. It was stated that the police officers, in the period from 28 October to that day only, seized 406 m3 of wood products without the supporting documentation.
The indicators on the security situation on the Republic of Srpska territory in the first ten months this year indicate that the total number of criminal offences has decreased by 4.1% compared to the same period in 2023, and the total rate of solved cases has increased.
The number of criminal offences against property (1,847) has decreased by 15.3%, whereas the total number of solved cases in this field has increased. With reference to the serious criminal offences related to property, the number of criminal cases has been decreased in the following criminal offences: Aggravated theft by 16.0%, Robbery 25.9% and criminal offences that refer to vehicle theft by 23.1% (there were 40 criminal offences recorded).
The number of traffic accidents (9,024) has increased by 2.8%, but fortunately the number of casualties in traffic in the first ten months (79) has decreased compared to the same period last year, when there were 88 casualties.
Traffic security shall remain the priority in the work of the Ministry, having in mind that 17,335 drivers have been excluded from traffic for the committed minor offences, mainly due to drunk driving (82.8%).
