The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, and the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević, organized a reception for the members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit who participated in the international contest of special units ”UAE Swat Challenge” that was held from February 1 to 5 in Dubai. Minister Karan pointed out that the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit had the ability to compete with the most elite units in the world.
He expressed gratitude to the members of the SAU for their efforts, highlighting that they presented the Republic of Srpska, the Ministry of the Interior and their Unit in the best possible manner. ”They presented the Republic of Srpska exactly as it is – strong, powerful, combat-ready, professional and responsible”, Minister Karan said.
He added that this was a highly significant experience and that it would enhance the training of the SAU members in overcoming various challenges, including counter-terrorism, organized crime, hostage crisis and maintaining public peace and order on a larger scale.
Minister Karan also pointed out that the SAU members train every day to guarantee the preservation of the constitutional order of the Republic of Srpska.
”This Unit is the successor of our special forces, which had made a significant contribution during the Homeland Defence War, and that is the main reason of their bravery and patriotism”, said Karan.
The SAU Commander, Mr Saša Japundža, evaluated the contest in Dubai as a great experience for the members of the Unit, since they do not often have the opportunity to participate in such events. “All the elite units from around the world come to this competition. It is an honour to be shoulder to shoulder with them. We learned a lot, and it will be beneficial for our training and future work,” added Commander Japundža.
The SAU member, Mr Miloš Subošić, stated that they gained new experience and that they would be more prepared for the next competition, as they did not have enough time to prepare this time. “We have the skills that are competitive on the global stage,” concluded Subošić.
120 teams from 48 countries competed in the prestigious contest of special units in Dubai, the "UAE SWAT Challenge", with the Dubai Police as the host.
