MARKING THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR FALLEN POLICE OFFICERS

| Banja Luka | Friday, 07/03/2025

On the occasion of marking the international Day of Remembrance for fallen police officers, the Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan and the Republic of Srpska Police Director, Mr Siniša Kostrešević, laid a wreath at the Central memorial for the fallen members of the Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior who lost their lives during the last homeland defense war.
The Republic of Srpska Minister of the Interior, Mr Siniša Karan, said that the total number of 782 police officers gave their lives for the Republic of Srpska, whereas 32 members of the Ministry lost their lives on duty after the war, and around 500 of them suffered light or serious injuries.
‘The Republic of Srpska Ministry of the Interior has a lot of young officers. In addition to providing professional training for them, we are constantly reminding them of the ethical and professional values of our members while performing their tasks’, Minister Karan said. He stated that being a police officer is a demanding and complex task, and that police officers often risk their own lives while saving other people’s lives and property.
‘The oath they take when they start working as police officers says that they are also ready to defend the constitutional order of the Republic of Srpska and the security of our citizens as a whole’, Minister Karan pointed out. He noted that there are other situations where the police officers show their ethical values, such as saving people from a cold river, a building caught in fire, in cases of natural disasters or through the activities of voluntary blood donation.
‘Over the last ten years, there are many memorable examples and feats of our police officers, from 2015, when we lost our police officer Dragan Đurić in a terrorist act in Zvornik, or in 2019, when our police officer Slađenko Tubin from Prijedor intervened at the report of the criminal offence ‘Domestic violence’, Minister Karan said.
He also reminded of the murder of the head of the Crime police sector of Prijedor Police Administration, Mr Radenko Bašić, in 2022, the murder of the inspector from Bijeljina, Mr Nenad Marković, in 2023, and the case from the last year, when police officer Miodrag Savić died during a car chase in Banja Luka.
